Picked up some gorgeous purple carrots, arugula and patty pan squash from Paydon & Mariah at @cherokeelakesfarm (not pictured). Then stopped by and said hi to the Colliers, the Parkinsons and the Griders.

I caught up with the Colliers hard at work in their garden Tuesday evening to check out the the @collier_family_farm Farm Stand. I love knowing where my food comes from and their kiddos are adorable. Farm Stand is Tuesdays 6p-7p. Turn left on 167 and after about 8 miles be watching on the left for the big red Collier Family Farm sign. If you can - try to score some of their zucchini bread - it’s amazing! They will be at the @actonlocalmarket this weekend!

I didn’t stop by one of my favorite farmers at @

I didn’t stop by one of my favorite farmers at @guerinfarmersmarket today because I already had two of these beauties from @parkinsonfarms from my last visit! I used some celery, garlic, fresh carrots, onions, parsley and some French thyme from my own garden to create a ‘raft’ for this pasture raised chicken to rest on. A tip I learned from my sweet friends at the farm - this will slow braise over a little bit of water from frozen all day at 275f. I’ll baste later today with some gee & broth and remove the lid to give a nice brown crispy skin. Not only will this make the most delicious, easy, nutritious dinner tonight - but that broth is going to be awesome for so many things!!

Met a new farmer at the @actonlocalmarket this morning and I’m crazy excited. @collier_family_farm believes in real, local, in season, clean food and their produce was gorgeous.

The third stop that was ABSOLUTELY happening today is @thefrogjuiceco - every juice is amazing but we’re addicted to the Frog Juice. It’s a little pricier than the bottle of water, sugar and chemicals that you can buy at the store - so I tell myself that 1/3 of a bottle is a serving and then it hits my tastebuds and next thing I know the bottle is gone. 😆 but come on - Apple, cucumber, celery, pineapple, spinach, kale, ginger, lemon. Your body is already crying ‘thank you’ just for thinking about it!

Next stop this morning was @parkinsonfarms - they had pasture raised chickens, eggs. A humanely raised chicken who gets sunshine and a varied natural diet is happier and healthier. It costs more than the sad mass produced ones in the grocery store - but so worth it. And thanks to a tip from Parkinson Farms - I sure got my moneys worth. Last week our chicken made a delicious roasted chicken dinner, then the left over meat is great for chicken salad sandwiches, then old-school boiling the rest for chicken & rice soup and finally the ‘rest of the rest’ 😎 slow simmered with some carrot peels, onion skins and celery tops makes a beautiful homemade chicken stock. Four meals in one!

First stop at the Guerins Farmers Market first thing this morning was @cherokeelakesfarm - Peyton and Mariah have all the great cool weather crops right now - carrots, radishes, lettuces, kale, spinach, beets, onions… color means phytonutrients and that means super healthy! Add to the fact that everything they grow is grown using #koreannaturalfarming methods which puts healthy soil first. I’m excited to get this kale and beet greens home and into a salad!

My favorite dressing,
50% really good quality olive oil
50% raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar (Braggs is great)
Minced garlic clove
Some raw local honey to taste.
Pinch of good salt (pink sea salt)
This makes an amazing base which is wonderful on its own - or you can infuse with your favorite seasonings. I even love it as a drizzle over chicken breast!

A couple of simple ham and cheese sliders are jazzed up with sriracha aioli, microgreens and some gorgeous lettuce from @cherokeelakesfarm - can’t wait for the next Farmers Market.

Many local farmers and producers will also happily sell direct. Since this is a very busy season for those who work the land, a hard copy directory of local farms may take a little longer, but we’ll keep featuring here!

It’s a great feeling knowing that your family is being nourished by the care, knowledge and hard work of farmers who are also your neighbors. @cherokeelakesfarm carrots done with a simple roast, and the butter lettuce tossed with a super light apple cider vinaigrette, and @parkinsonfarms whole chicken slow roasted all day over a bed of onions, carrots and celery. Thank you for the food neighbors!!

It was so much fun to head out to the Farmers Market at Guerin’s this morning. I learned a lot from @cherokeelakesfarm about the nutritional differences between heirloom and hybrid veggies. I also picked up a free-range chicken ready for the pot from @parkinsonfarms. As the season goes along we’ll be featuring these great local farms & producers and giving tips on how to use this amazing local, fresh, in-season food!

Went out to visit All-Natchur-L in Cleburne today. How fun! Fresh raw milk by the gallon, honey, eggs, raw milk yogurts, cheeses, jams soaps and lip balms. Here at our house we’ll be starting our own homemade yogurt tonight, with tons of probiotics and no additives. Maybe some butter & ice cream. Thank you All Natchur L !!
